The 8th International Day of Yoga successfully organized in HCMC

The 8th International Day of Yoga was held successfully on June 21, at Nguyen Hue walking street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC).

The event was organized by Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City, in collaboration with the Department of External Relations in Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Associations, Vietnam – India Friendship Association, and Indian Business Chamber in Vietnam.

The celebration was warmly attended by around 1,000 yoga instructors and enthusiasts from Ho Chi Minh City Yoga Federation and yoga clubs across the city. They joined the synchronized mass performance of yoga postures led by Yogi Prakash Athrayil of the Art of Living Vietnam.

Dr. Madan Mohan Sethi, Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City, shared that Yoga and Yoga day are important instruments to connect the people of India and Vietnam. 2022 is an important year of the two countries as it marks the 50th year of diplomatic relations between India and Vietnam and also the 75th year of Independence Day of India. He urged people to practice yoga and strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries in various sectors.

Dr. Do Viet Ha, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations said that a series of activities have been undertaken to celebrate the milestone of the 50th year of diplomatic relations between India and Vietnam. International Day of Yoga is one of those.

Yoga has its origin in India back in 5,000 years ago. Celebration of the 8th International Day of Yoga helps gain cultural exposure of the land and people in the bank of the Ganges river to the people of Vietnam. Yoga is an ancient system of philosophies, principles, and practices derived from the Vedic traditions of India. Yoga is a holistic approach to recognizing the multi-dimensional nature of the human persona, contributing to physical and mental development. It is a discipline to improve or develop one’s inherent power in a balanced manner and offers the means to attain complete self-realization. Considering the benefits of yoga over mankind in general, the United Nations, by its Resolution No. 69/131 on December 11, 2014 proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. The Resolution was co-sponsored by 175 countries including Vietnam.

'Yoga for Humanity' was chosen as the theme for the 8th International Day of Yoga, keeping with the spirit of humanity's collective quest to promote a sustainable lifestyle in harmony with planet Earth in light of a worldwide resumption of normal life after the COVID-19 pandemic.
